Another day, another suit against Vonage for patent infringement. Isn't it finally time for the VoIP company to fold up its tent?
Now it's Nortel's time to sue. The giant maker of telecom equipment is suing Vonage, claiming the company infringes on 12 of Nortel's patents covering the use of managing telephone data, reports Bloomberg.
To a certain extent, this is tit for tat. Back in August, Vonage sued Nortel, attempting to invalidate three of Nortel's patents, which Vonage claims should not have been issued.
As part of its suit, Nortel is also seeking an injunction against Vonage, which would stop Vonage from using several technologies relating to 411 and 911 calls, and to Vonage's "click to call" feature.
On the stock market, meanwhile, Vonage seems headed for penny stock status. As I write this, its stock is valued at $2.01. At its IPO, the stock was at $17.
The Nortel suit is just one more stop along the way in Vonage's slow-motion death. When will someone buy this company and put it out of its misery?
