Why operating systems are so yesterday

“The OS is going to go from something that was really crucial to this thing chosen by the application developer. OSes aren’t going away. They're always going to be there. They will be part of applications. You won’t care as much.”

--Mendel Rosenblum, associate professor of computer science and engineering, Stanford University, on the role of the operating system in the era of cloud computing. Mendel made the comments during a panel discussion at today’s Emerging Technologies conference at MIT.
