Shark Tank

You got 30 minutes

User has a problem with her calendar in Lotus Notes, so she submits a trouble ticket, according to a pilot fish in the know.

And the offshore help desk promptly contacts her.

Help Desk: "I am Fred from the help desk, calling about the Domino problem you reported."

User: "What?"

Help Desk: "I am calling about the Domino issue you have."

User: "I didn't order any pizza. You must have the wrong number."

Help Desk: "No, I am calling from the help desk about your Domino problem."

User: "Are you calling about the domain?"

Help Desk: "No, it's about the Lotus Notes problem."

User: "Oh, the Lotus Notes calendar problem?"

Help Desk: "Yes!"

Reports fish, "The Lotus Domino team did finally fix the issue, and the user is happy for now -- even though she didn't get any pizza."

What People Are Saying

Notes v. Domino

Most end users haven't even heard of Domino in reference to Notes. The Help Desk should be informed of that. IT usually speaks a different language than the end user.

Well Played

I often enjoy your comments, this one was especially well played!

I'm not sure it's wise to

I'm not sure it's wise to assume that users are going to know that Lotus Domino and Lotus Notes are related products.

Too True

This would seem to be more a problem with the helldesk script than with the user's brain.

Is it just me or have many of the recent stories turned out to be stuff the writer should have thought about rather than any failure of the user to engage brain?

Don't over-analyze

I think this is just a funny case of miscommunication. It's not necessary to think that anyone failed to engage their brain in order to enjoy the story.
